Leonard Norman Cohen (Montréal, 1934. szeptember 21. – Los Angeles, 2016. november 7.) kanadai költő, regényíró, énekes és dalszövegíró.

Zenei pályafutása háttérbe szorítja költői és írói érdemeit, pedig a zeneiparbeli sikere után is jelentetett meg verseket. Korai korszakában a zenéje a countryra épült mind dallamait, mind a hangszerelését tekintve, de az 1970-es évektől a pop- és a kabarézene különböző stílusai hatnak rá. Az 1980-as évektől mély, basszus hangfekvésben való ének jellemzi, amelyet szintetizátor és női háttérvokál kísér.

Dalai gyakran érzelmileg súlyos, komplex lírai darabok, amelyek közelebb állnak a költészet szóvarázslataihoz, mint a dalgyártás hagyományaihoz. Szövegeiben sokszor jelenik meg a vallás, az elszigetelődés és a személyes kapcsolatok bonyolultsága.

Zenéje jelentős hatás gyakorolt más énekesekre, dalszövegírókra; műveiből több, mint ezer feldolgozást rögzítettek különböző előadók. Számos dalát énekelték magyarul is: Kern András 1998-ban egy teljes lemezt kiadott Engem vársz címmel (a szövegeket Fábri Péter fordította), 2003-ban pedig A vendégek címmel jelent meg egy feldolgozáslemez több zenész (Zorán, a Kispál és a Borz és sokan mások) részvételével. A talán legismertebb magyar Cohen-feldolgozás, Zorán Volt egy tánc című dala nem fordítás; Dusán saját szöveget írt Cohen zenéjére.

2009. augusztus 31-én végre Magyarországra is ellátogatott. Világ körüli turnéja keretében három órás koncertet adott a zsúfolásig megtelt Papp László Budapest Sportarénában. Bécs, Pozsony és Prága voltak az előző állomások. A magyar főváros után Belgrád, majd további 21 koncert következett november közepéig. Néhány idézetet szemlélve a koncertet méltató írásokból az látható, hogy azok egységesen az év koncertjének, sőt akadt, amely minden idők legjobb budapesti hangversenyeként minősítette.

A hazájában is népszerű, elismert művész – 1991-ben bekerült a kanadai zenész-hírességek dicsőségcsarnokába, és 2003-ban kitüntették a Kanada Renddel (Companions of the Order of Canada), amely a legmagasabb polgári kitüntetés.

Leonard Norman Cohen (September 21, 1934 – November 7, 2016) was a Canadian songwriter, singer, poet, and novelist. Themes commonly explored throughout his work include faith and mortality, isolation and depression, betrayal and redemption, social and political conflict, sexual and romantic love, desire, regret, and loss. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honour. In 2011, he received one of the Prince of Asturias Awards for literature and the ninth Glenn Gould Prize. In 2023, Rolling Stone named Cohen the 103rd-greatest singer.

Cohen pursued a career as a poet and novelist during the 1950s and early 1960s, and did not begin a music career until 1966. His first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), was followed by three more albums of folk music: Songs from a Room (1969), Songs of Love and Hate (1971) and New Skin for the Old Ceremony (1974). His 1977 record Death of a Ladies' Man, co-written and produced by Phil Spector, was a move away from Cohen's previous minimalist sound.

In 1979, Cohen returned with the more traditional Recent Songs, which blended his acoustic style with jazz, East Asian, and Mediterranean influences. Cohen's most famous song, "Hallelujah", was released on his seventh album, Various Positions (1984). I'm Your Man in 1988 marked Cohen's turn to synthesized productions. In 1992, Cohen released its follow-up, The Future, which had dark lyrics and references to political and social unrest.

Cohen returned to music in 2001 with the release of Ten New Songs, a major hit in Canada and Europe. His eleventh album, Dear Heather, followed in 2004. In 2005, Cohen discovered that his manager had stolen most of his money and sold his publishing rights, prompting a return to touring to recoup his losses. Following a successful string of tours between 2008 and 2013, he released three albums in the final years of his life: Old Ideas (2012), Popular Problems (2014), and You Want It Darker (2016), the last of which was released three weeks before his death. His fifteenth studio album, Thanks for the Dance, was released in November 2019.

Marianne Christine Stang Ihlen (Norwegian: [mɑrɪˈɑ̂nːə ˈîːln̩]; 18 May 1935 – 28 July 2016) was a Norwegian woman who was the first wife of author Axel Jensen and later the muse and girlfriend of Leonard Cohen for several years in the 1960s. She was the subject of Cohen's 1967 song "So Long, Marianne".

Rebecca De Mornay (born August 29, 1959) is an American actress. Her breakthrough film role came in 1983, when she starred in Risky Business. De Mornay is also known for her roles in The Slugger's Wife (1985), Runaway Train (1985), The Trip to Bountiful (1985), Backdraft (1991), and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992).

Her other film credits include The Three Musketeers (1993), Never Talk to Strangers (1995), Identity (2003), Lords of Dogtown, Wedding Crashers (both 2005), and Mother's Day (2010). On television, she starred as Wendy Torrance in the miniseries adaptation of The Shining (1997), and as Dorothy Walker on Marvel's Jessica Jones (2015–19).
